The Sacred Choice of Presence

In a world that pulls us in every direction, practicing the power of presence can become our sanctuary.

In the present moment is where peace, power and clarity reside.

Presence isn't just a concept; it's a state of being.

It's not only reserved for monks on a mountaintop, but for us today and it's available to us at any moment if we choose it.

Presence is a sacred space where we meet our highest self, hear the whisper of our soul, and find Divine wisdom to truly live.

But all too often, we get caught up in the mental time travel game. You know the one, where we rehash the past or worry about the future. It's a game that, most of the time, we don't even know that we're playing.

I know I'm guilty.

In Every breath, every pause, every heartbeat, life whispers: Come back to me.

Life is whispering, but are we listening?

How often do we allow ourselves to be here - fully and completely present without rushing to the next thing or replaying that last argument in our heads?

Presence is not something that happens by chance. It's a choice.

A choice that we must make over and over again if we want to experience life in all of its fullness.

Because in truth, life isn't happening in the past or in the future. Life is happening now.

It only ever happens now, right now, in this present moment.

And when we choose life in this present moment, we awaken to the miracles hidden in plain sight.

So today, let us explore a few sacred choices that can lead us back to the power of presence.

The Choice to Witness: Noticing When You are Not Here

Before we can practice the power of presence, we must first understand when we are not present.

Have you even been lost in thought, worrying about something, or dwelling on what happened in the past?

Do you move throughout your day on autopilot, barely even noticing what's going on around you?

We all do these things unconsciously.

But the moment that you notice it, you awaken. And the moment you awaken, presence returns. And from this place, you can make the choice to be vigilant and watch yourself.

Try this: For just a brief moment, stop and ask yourself - Where am I? Am I fully here? Am I fully present, or am I somewhere else?

If you find yourself somewhere else, you don't need to judge it, instead just breathe, and simply return to this present moment.

It's not about judging or fixing, it's about witnessing - which is enough.

Don't be disheartened if you notice yourself drifting multiple times a day. Celebrate instead! Because the more you notice and practice being aware of it, the better at it you will become.

Presence begins when you notice and make the choice to see yourself. It isn't something outside of us - It is who we are underneath the noise.

The Choice to Remember: Returning to Your Natural State

Presence is not something to be achieved. It is something that we remember, it is our natural state of being.

Think of children. A child doesn't have to try to be present - they simply are present.

Before we grew up and before the world conditioned us to rush, to analyze, and to live in our heads, we were fully alive and fully present in the moment.

And that means presence isn't foreign to us. We can find it in ourselves again. It is just beneath all the noise and distraction.

Take a moment to stop and choose to remember - right now in this present moment. Take a breath, allow the stress to fall off, allow your mind to clear and return to your natural state of being.

When you choose presence, you are not learning something new, you are coming home to yourself.

With every breath, let yourself return, not to a new way of being, but to the way that you were always meant to be.

The Choice to Surrender: Releasing Resistance to This Moment

One of the biggest barriers to being present is resistance.

We resist what is, wishing it were different.

We resist stillness, filling every space with distraction.

We resist the now (the present moment), believing that happiness, peace, and clarity exist somewhere out there in the future.

Resistance is sneaky. It doesn't announce itself or warn you that you're resisting. Instead, it lingers in the background, letting you believe that you are in control.

It stirs up distractions, fuels confusion and keeps you caught in a cycle of overthinking.

But presence asks us to surrender. To accept this moment exactly as it is.

Because what if this moment - just as it is - is already sacred? Already whole?

Try this: Instead of resisting what is, just notice it, becoming aware of it.

Then lean into it. Be fully present with it and see what it has to offer you without any judgement or resistance to it, just letting it be what it is.

Let it speak to you and show you why it's here. Because when you stop fighting, it will open and reveal its truth.

When we stop resisting life, we begin to live it.

The Choice to Listen: Letting Presence Guide You

Presence is not just about stillness; it's also about being in harmony or attunement.

When you are fully present, you hear things you would have otherwise missed.

Like the voice of your soul, the wisdom of Divine, the quiet knowing that is always inside you.

The next step in your journey, the clarity that you've been searching for is not hiding in the future.

It is waiting for you now. Right here. In this present moment.

It's buried under layers of doubt, overthinking, and the belief that you need something more.

But what if you simply made the decision to trust what you need to know is already here? That the path will reveal itself as you walk it?

When you lean into the knowing that has been whispering to you all along - everything shifts.

The fog lifts and the next step becomes obvious, not because it just suddenly appeared, but becuase you paused long enough to listen and hear the still quiet voice and said yes to what is already here.

Instead of searching for answers, be still. Listen. The answers are already here, waiting for you.

The Choice to Embody: Living Presence in Daily Life

Presence isn't just for meditation, cushions, and quiet mornings. (Although I do love all those things!) It is meant to be lived, daily.

Right here, in this breath, in this heartbeat, in this moment - Lived.

And in this moment, there is nothing to change or chase and nothing to fix.

Everything is whole. You are whole.

I invite you to choose presence, not just once but repeatedly.

Choose to return to you, to listen, to surrender, to be.

Try these simple choices to embody presence throughout your day:

  • Breath. Let each breath remind you that you are here in this moment.

  • Pause. In the space between cause and response, pause, center and listen.

  • See. Every moment holds the Divine in the ordinary, if you look for it.

Life is not waiting for you in some big moment. It's happening now.

Choose to see magic and miracles.

Because choosing this daily, fully - you will see this moment is sacred.

And so are you.
