3 Simple Everyday Habits to Help You on Your Spiritual Journey
Are you thinking of incorporating spiritual practices into your daily routine and feel a bit overwhelmed by it?
It's common, creating a new habit can be challenging. If you are anything like me, your time is precious and limited.
It turns out there’s no real mystery to it other than doing something simple every day.
Now, if the word “habits” makes you wince a little, I get it. It sounds like a lot of work. But with just a few minor changes, you can be well on your way to creating a new daily practice that can help you transform your spiritual life.
It’s true what they say:
If you can stick with a new habit long enough, you’ll even forget it’s a habit. It just becomes something that you do.
Good habits can definitely help you reset, recharge, and refocus.
I know, because in a time of heaviness and sadness, I craved the light and wanted more than anything to feel better inside. I spent hours scrolling, searching for anything to help me.
But I was searching in the wrong places.
I was searching desperately for something outside of myself for help. I thought I needed a miracle. When all along, what I really needed was to move a few things around in my busy life and make time for myself.
So, if you’ve been struggling to find the time or to stay consistant, know that you're not alone, everyone has been there.
The real key to success is having a simple routine you can follow without fail, and that includes being available for yourself.
Read on to discover 3 easy spiritual habits to help you begin your journey.
#1. Schedule “Me” Time
I know this may sound like a weird thing to "schedule" into your day but believe me, if you want to grow spiritually, you need this time.
Honestly, at first it might be hard to follow through, but it's simply because you're not used to it.
However, scheduling this time is crucial for your peace and state of mind.
Keep in mind, to grow spiritually, you need to make some changes and put yourself first at some point during the day.
Here’s the good news:
You don’t need to devote hours to feel refreshed and recharged.
Start off by committing to a time frame, 10 - 20 minutes a day.
Once you make it part of your routine, it quickly becomes a regular habit that you won't fear or dread.
Be mindful of the fact that "me" time or alone time looks different for everyone, so what works for someone else may not work for you, and that’s okay.
All you must do is commit to it and the rest will follow.
Start out by scheduling your quiet time every day at the same time, then, after 30 days, you can fine-tune it and see if a different time works better for you.
Remember this is about time for you. You want to feel comfortable and not be rushed or disturbed.
For me, it is the quiet time in the morning before anyone else in the house is up that works perfectly for my life.
#2. Meditation and Prayer
Meditation and Prayer is one of the best ways to connect to Divine, clear your mind and prepare your body, mind, and energies for the day ahead.
When I first started out on my spiritual journey, I underestimated the power of Prayer and Meditation but it's crucial to your success so worth paying attention to.
Mediation helps you settle into stillness and opens your ability to hear your Intuition.
It can be a challenge to notice it if our minds are busy with other things.
Intuition is your soft inner voice or that little voice that tries to tell us things from time to time.
Meditation is a wonderful way to clear the mind and make room for our intuition to come shining through.
Prayer opens your heart to gratitude and is essential for communing with God and receiving Divine guidance.
Prayer is a sacred practice that not only nourishes your soul but also supports the mind and body.
It has been shown to reduce stress levels, lower blood pressure, and cultivate a sense of calm and well-being.
More than that prayer opened a doorway to connection - both with Divine and with others - reminding us that we are never truly alone.
Whether you view prayer as an act of faith or a simple tool, there is no denying it's power with life’s challenges and getting closer to God.
Together, with meditation, they bring harmony, clarity, and a deep sense of peace, helping you stay aligned with your highest self.
#3. Prioritize your physical health
This one can be extra challenging, especially if you’re not used to any form of exercise.
But like I said before, these things don't have to be time consuming. You don't have to spend hours in the gym or doing home workouts.
Just start with something simple, like taking a short walk. The idea is to move your body and preferably go outside to do it.
Taking a walk outside has been one of the best things that I have done to support my spiritual well-being.
I began doing this by using one of my 15-minute breaks at work to get away from my desk and go outside to walk around. It has increased my mood and my ability to keep my energy up.
And I found that spending time in nature, away from technology, was one of the best ways to quiet my mind.
When you go outside regularly, even for just a few short minutes, you will find yourself building a strong foundation for your spiritual practice.
Because anytime we immerse ourselves in nature's beauty, we have an opportunity to open the door into our inner world, where the mind quiets, the soul leads and a deeper truth begins to unfold.
Wrapping it up
Whether you’re new to spirituality, have been at it for a while, or you just want a way to recharge or stay balanced and focused, these habits will help you build a solid foundation.
All you need to do is stick to it.
Remember it takes time and dedication, and failure is part of the process. So, if you go off track at any point, that’s completely normal. Don’t beat yourself up and waste time worrying about it. Get right back to it. You got this!
